It’s lunch time again, I’m not making lunch today though. Today’s lunch is lunch to the power of 10 :).
My little sister as flown over for school holidays, this is her second time in Cape Town, and I’m still on my sabbatical. So we’ve planned a bonding week filled with copious amounts of fun! Today the weather seems to be playing ball, so we decided to go up the cableway to the top of Table Mountain.
Yes, I’m sitting on top of Table Mountain right now( 1067 m up) after having finished my lunch, blogging or rather bragging about it. The view from up here is nothing short of spectacular. I’m not sure why I haven’t done this before. The cableway ride was very quick as well, a total of 5 min!
There’s a lot to look at here; plants, flowers including our South Africa Fynbos, they have a cafe, picnic spots and a curio shop as well. This mountain feels so majestic, it makes you feel like you’re part of something bigger.

Anyways on to lunch; This is at the Table Mountain cafe. There’s a lunch buffet: You dish up, go weigh your food then pay. The selection looks good, but after much deliberation, I’ve opted for Ostrich stew and savory rice, potato and coleslaw. Accompanied by my dear friend Peroni, Nastro Azzuro, to wash it down smoother.
The verdict: This view will make anything taste breathtaking. But unfortunately the food is still disappointing. The ostrich is so dry it’s so difficult to bite into it, the stew is ok and only talented Chefs can mess up savory rice. So this one, not that gifted! It feels like no one really took any care making this food.
I’m so disappointed, I was really looking forward to this lunch. I even had a number of people I was going to bring up here for lunch, but not anymore. I think we’ll have to picnic. And the cost is ridiculous as well, I paid R88.50 for this plate.
On the cheery side though, the beer is still good and the view still breathtaking. So not all is lost.
