Recently spent a weekend in Stellenbosch.
Very quaint winery farm lands. Very peaceful and tranquil. A very well deserved break from the hustle and bustle.
When you’re in Stellenbosch, you have to visit the Root 44 market. My mother in law had told me about it, and I had to give it a try.
Pictures tell a thousand words….
In a nutshell, if you are in Stellenbosch please do check it out. You definitely won’t regret it.
The setting in the middle class of a wine farm, with vast spaces and brilliant picturesque views.
Very easy to find, as the name spells it out: it’s on the R44 in Stellenbosch. Very easy to find and finding parking is less than an effort. I’m welcome by horses in the stable close to the parking.
With the live band playing in the background, I embark on my exploration.
From homemade goods such as glasses, carpentry work, clothing, accessories, books. And the range of foods, wine and other drinks; don’t get me started. There was so much to see, explore, hear. The 2 hours I had to spend was definitely not enough.
It definitely caters to everyone. My 4 year old son had such a ball, running up and down the open spaces outside and a very well equipped play area. He even found a book he liked, convinced me to buy it for him and later lost it 😒
My husband was stuck for the longest time at the custom made knives stall. And in front of the Turkish delight stand, ‘tasting’😑.
I was gobsmacked by the carpentry stall. It looked amazing. I’m definitely saving some money for one of those cupboards for my house. 2nd to the carpentry work was the food obviously. I found myself enchanted by some impressive kebab work…
I need to go back when I have the whole day to spend.
Highly recommended, especially with a group of close friends or family for market shopping and lunch.
Score: 9/10. It is more than a food market, it’s an everything you could ever want market. Perfect balance. 👍🏾❤️👏🏆
